The word mangalsutra is composed of two words – mangal that means auspicious and sutra stands for a thread. The origin of this auspicious thread dates back to 5th-6th Century CE, in South India, when a single yellow thread was tied around a bride’s wrist, rather than her neck. It is probably the one aspect of Hindu culture that is used in every part of the country in different forms and names. Mangalsutras today are designed keeping in mind the current lifestyles and wardrobes. They have become an aesthetic fashion statement. Check out these mangalsutra pendant designs!!
